父亲之离世, 对儿女来说必会是沉重的打击~ 近年忽然大热的迷幻乐队 Animal Collective, 当中的核心成员 Panda Bear, 在2002年却不幸经历丧父之痛~ 而他这张个人大碟, 便是他献予父亲的最后一份心意~
无论你认识的 Animal Collective 是 “Spirit They’re Gone, Spirit They’ve Vanished” 时期的迷幻流行模式; “Here Comes the Indian” 时期的迷幻原始森林民歌版本; 抑或是新作 “Sung Tongs” 的高度旋律化形态, 它们跟这里 Panda Bear 所谱写的歌曲都有一定的差异~ 这里所收录的东西, 反而较接近他们以 Campfire Songs 名义发表的同名唱片~
“Campfire Songs” 是一张非常迷幻的唱片, 是他们探索 psychedelic folk 可能性的路途上较为极端的成果~ 反观 “Young Prayer”, 它大致上承习了 “Campfire Songs” 那扑朔迷离的迷幻风格, 只是这里的歌曲编排更见简约, 往往只有一枝木结他与 Panda Bear 气若游丝的吟唱~
全碟合共9曲却只有28分鐘, 可想而知这里的歌曲的长度平均只有2至3分鐘~ 歌曲全没有命名, 而这亦是甚为恰当的做法, 因为这里的歌曲都没有很突出的旋律, 而曲与曲之间亦没有明显的分野, 就如处於一个半梦半醒的状态, 在疑幻疑真的国度里一直随波逐流~ 较特别的是第五曲, 此曲以古老的 chanting 方法演绎, 有如宗教崇拜中的颂诗~
虽然歌曲只有很简单的伴奏, 往往甚至没有抢耳的旋律可依, 但这种赤裸裸的原始表达方式, 却能流露出一种出尘的欢愉感, 勾起孩提时期那种简单而纯朴的快乐~ 也许这正是 Panda Bear 想要抒发的的感觉, 藉歌曲细诉他与父亲共享的一些回忆, 以纪念身处天国的至亲…
这张专辑，如果让我只用一个词来形容。我会选诡异。
In the midst of 2002, with much of his attention focused on his work with the Brooklyn-based ANIMAL COLLECTIVE, PANDA BEAR stepped aside to a more intimate space to reflect upon the death of his father. The resulting Young Prayer, often coming much closer to classical composition than to the noise/pop experimentations of the ANIMAL COLLECTIVE, is a collection of beautifully personal and introspective songs. Young Prayer, recorded in Panda Bear's childhood home by ANIMAL COLLECTIVE member DEAKIN and further produced by the mysterious ANIMAL COLLECTIVE brothers known as COME WINTER, guarantees a listening experience as interesting as any ANIMAL COLLECTIVE release thus far. A truly soulful album, Young Prayer is both sonically gorgeous and spiritually uplifting.
